Hi
can i ask a question please. i believe post brexit any imported food product must have the name of the brand producer and a UK address for consumers to be able to contact with any queries.
My question is we are importing major brands from India that have been produced there and the contact details are Indian addresses.
However in the case of companies like Heinz,Mars, etc who have a large UK presence is it necessary to apply a label stating these products have been imported by our company. My logic is that the consumer can always contact Heinz and Mars UK by a simple google check and therefore the label is not required. i would truly appreciate your assistance on this matter. Many thanks
The address of the importer must be provided so you can be contacted in case of any problems. You also have legal liability for importing the products into the UK in case anything goes wrong. Guidance here:
https://www.food.gov.uk/business-guidance/packaging-and-labelling. Bear in mind Heinz UK may not necessarily accept any problems with products made by Heinz India and it isn’t even a given that food that is legal in India is legal in the UK (you should be confirming this as an importer).
